Vascular stage of inflammation
cell injury, vessels dilate, and increased permeability.
cell injury
–chemicals released (histamine) –transient vasoconstriction
Vessels dilate
–tissue becomes congested –redness and warmth noted
Increased permeability
–fluid moves into tissue –protein–rich exudate
What can increase the speed of WBC production?
bone marrow
what are the chemical mediators in the arachidonic acid pathway.
Prostaglandins, Thromboxane, Leukotrienes
Local/tissue response
redness, swelling, warmth, pain, and decreased function.
Systemic response
leukocytosis , increased pulse, RR, fever, malaise, nausea, and anorexia.
Elevated WBC count
Not always bc an infx bc you can have inflammation w/o infx.
Clinical finding : redness
Vessel vasodilation
Clinical finding : heat
Increased metabolic activity at site
Clinical finding : pain
Fluid pressing on nerves (swelling). Change in pH. Nerve stimulation by chemicals (histamine or prostaglandins)
